"Communication"

About: St John of God Midland Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

I feel distressed and upset I was discharged still in pain not fully understanding what is going on. I was spoken about as she is getting dressed. Why weren’t the bedside rails put down so I could even get out? I had to slide through the end. Which with groin pain is not the best.

When I rang about my care and I was still in pain the switchboard not the nurse, I felt was so rude and hung up on myself and my husband 3 times. Since when does a switchboard operator who clarified that she had no medical experience choose whether a person gets to speak to anyone in the hospital? She just kept hanging up. In my opinion, this is nowhere good enough. I never realised that a switchboard operator runs the hospital. I think this is ridiculous.

Hello Hurt

Thank you for your feedback regarding your recent visit to St John of God Midland Public and Private Hospitals.

I am very sorry to learn that your discharge was not well-coordinated and regret that you did not receive any assistance when you contacted our switchboard following your discharge. It is disappointing to read of the distress and concern caused for both you and your husband.

Our Consumer Liaison Coordinator has been made aware that you contacted the hospital a number of times over the weekend and would like to speak with you about your experience.

Please contact her on 9462 4901 to provide your contact details so we can investigate your concerns and provide a response. I thank you for bringing this to our attention and we look forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards

Janet Jones

Update posted by Hurt (the patient)

I am waiting to see if it’s taken on board or just generic response. I am still in shock and upset and in disbelief that my only connection to the hospital was someone that kept hanging up on me.
