"Incorrect medical records"

About: Angliss Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

I had an accident with a power tool and removed my fingernail and skin on the middle finger of my left hand.  A young doctor put stitches in my middle finger on the left hand. The doctor then gave me a note for my GP to keep him informed. I opened the letter and it informed my doctor that it was the third finger on my right hand and that I am legally blind and deaf. I am not blind and deaf and most of the details had little resemblance to fact. I destroyed the letter and made an appointment with my GP to have the stitches out.

I recently attended the Angliss Hospital as I had gastroenteritis and was very dehydrated. I was only in there for a short while. I was then given a letter from a doctor who stated that I was legally blind and deaf (not true). I tried phoning Eastern Health and I was transferred from one person to another like a hot potato was burning their hands. Eventually I spoke to the doctor who had given me the last note. He said he would delete my legally blind and deaf statement. I suspect it was only from his letter. I have kept this letter just in case I need a lawyer at a later date should anyone believe I am blind and deaf and involved in a traffic accident. Yes I drive a car and listen to the radio. I wish to know how do I get medical records corrected on the Eastern Health computers when entered incorrectly by a doctor.

Dear antliaqx57

Thank you so much for taking the time to share comments on your recent experiences at the Angliss Emergency Department. Like you, I am quite concerned regarding the accuracy of the information we have listed in your medical record. I would like to sincerely apologise this is the case.

Could I please ask if you could make contact privately with our Patient Relations Advisors in the Eastern Health Centre for Patient Experience so we can obtain the necessary information from you? The contact details are either emailing feedback@easternhealth.org.au or calling 1800 EASTERN.

With your assistance in reviewing what has gone wrong here, we can learn and make the necessary changes so this doesn't happen again.

Thank you again for raising this and I hope we hear from you soon.

Kind regards

David
