"The Rehab Ward/Sub acute"

About: Albany Health Campus / Physiotherapy Albany Health Campus / SubAcute Ward Fiona Stanley Hospital / State Rehabilitation Service Wards A&B, Wards 1A& 2A

(as the patient),

I arrived from another state early last year and very shortly after developed some serious ulcers on my right foot. Healing was not happening and I was referred to a vascular surgeon who found I had peripheral vascular disease. The long and the short of it was two toe amputations, which were quickly followed by my right leg being removed. The story I really need to tell is about what happened after.

I was transferred from The State Rehab Centre (SRC) to Albany and I found both SRC and the Sub acute ward in Albany to be an excellent experience. The nursing staff, doctors and physio/OT workers in both places were beyond good. They made me feel at ease, even about losing my leg, comfortable with the process and motivated me to see beyond the loss. I can not sing their praises enough.

There are three or four people who deserve special mention, but to do so would be unfair to so many who did not have any actual involvement with me, let it just be noted that everyone who was looking after me deserves a standing ovation. Many thanks to the sub acute ward and the SRC.

I do have one complaint, but I will make that the subject of another story because I do not want to distract from the outstanding work of these two centres.

Dear Chuffed,

On behalf of the Fiona Stanley Hospital (FSH) Rehabilitation Services, I would like to thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback following the care you received. It is not easy adjusting to drastic life changes, so the care you receive to make you feel comfortable and motivated is an important part of the process.

I have relayed your feedback to the appropriate Nurses, Doctors, Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy staff in the Rehab Services at FSH to relay your praises in the support they provided in helping you.

We wish you all the best with your recovery.

Neil Doverty
