"Urgent help needed"

About: Sydney / Sydney Eye Hospital / Social Work

(as a relative),

I need to urgently get in touch with a social worker at your hospital. Is there a number I can call? I have tried the number listed on your website, with little success.

I write to you under great stress and concern. My spouse and I are permanently residents of Australia and are both currently unemployed and looking for work. We are also parents to triplets who are very young and under immense financial pressure.

My sibling traveled to visit us from overseas to help look after the triplets so we could focus on our job searches. However, during this time my sibling has suffered a severe eye condition resulting in a hole in their cornea and fluid leakage which can potentially leading to vision loss in their left eye. My sibling has already lost vision in their right eye over a number of years ago and this is their only eye, where my sibling already suffers from partial visibility due to glaucoma and other issues. My sibling was being treated in their home country and everything was under control and stable and my sibling only traveled post approval from their corneal and retinal doctors.

Unfortunately, since arriving in Australia, my sibling has suffered this major eye trauma and I have been taking the to the Sydney eye clinic for treatment.

I have paid over 1000 AUD in two days for consultations and blood tests. This is money I do not have and have borrowed from a friend. It seems that there will be many more visits required and a potential procedure/surgery to repair the hole in the cornea to prevent blindness. I am afraid I am unable to afford further costs of treatment and am under immense pressure, as inability to do so may result in total blindness.

I also explored if it would be possible for my sibling to fly back to our home country where treatment would be cheaper, but the doctors have advised against travel due to air pressure and have recommended urgent action.

As my sibling is not covered by any health or travel insurance, I am writing to you as a humble request to help waive the fees associated in the treatment of their eye, including any operations or hospital stay that may be required.

This is a horrible situation to be in and I feel fully responsible for my family who has come over to support me and instead has fallen incredibly ill. The patient is under a lot of mental and emotional stress by the thought of losing vision and feeling very helpless. I also feel the same since I cannot afford this treatment to save my sibling's eye.

I am requesting you to please consider this case as a special case and provide me with a letter of authority that waives any fee involved in my sibling's treatment.

I put my full trust and faith in the Australian Health system and public hospitals and request your urgent help with this matter.

Dear velaxn85

Thank you to you and your sibling, for meeting with me this week to discuss payment options for continuing treatment. The meeting resulted in a resolution for your sibling's continuing urgent treatment.

All the best for your sibling's eye care.
