"Atherton Hospital Maternity"

About: Atherton Hospital / Maternity (low risk)

(as the patient),

My baby was born recently during the early hours of the morning. We were okay as Dad was with us that night and most of next day.

The next night I was left all night on our own, baby was restless most of the night and I was with very strong pains. At around about  4:30 am I had passed a huge clot. I had to leave my crying baby as I went to the toilet as there were no staff to be seen.

I came back from toilet to my crying baby and once again fed my baby to try settling for some sleep.

I did not feel right and pushed button on for some assistance - 39 mins later still no assistance. Therefore I sat on the bed feeding baby and passes out not long after. Nobody still had checked out myself or baby and the next thing I knew I woke up to my arm falling with baby. Baby fell out onto floor and fractured their head.

Also the next day when nurse was trying to take my blood she failed to do so twice with a butterfly due to not releasing strap.

I felt abandoned, and helpless.

I would like to bring forward not blame, but a suggestion that over tired and incompetent staff need more assistance to improve.

Also there were was old expressed milk in the fridge.

I believe we were not monitored properly and as the result my baby suffered great trauma.

All patients should be checked on more frequently, and a full run down on how bed rails work would have prevented this accident from happening.
