I recently found out that I was going to finally be a mother. My doctor informed me to book my 12-week ultrasound as soon as possible due to long waiting times. I attended medical imaging with my referral to book my scan. In my opinion, the receptionist quite abruptly told me they probably couldn't accommodate my request for an ultrasound even though I was trying to book an appointment almost 5 weeks in advance. The receptionist gave no reason why, but then tentatively booked a 20-week scan without a referral. After reiterating again that I couldn't have a 12 weeks scan, I believe they mumbled something about no sonographers. They took my referral and told me to come back and collect my referral if no one had called me by the end of the week.
I was left feeling very confused and very anxious, because being a first time mum navigating numerous appointments is not already overwhelming enough. Not happy that I am most likely going to have to travel far from home at my own expense while taking time off work to have a scan that should be available in a remote hospital.
