"My health incident"

About: Esperance Health Campus Fiona Stanley Hospital Kalgoorlie Health Campus Patient Assisted Travel Scheme - WACHS Goldfields Royal Flying Doctor Service Telehealth Service - WACHS Goldfields

(as the patient),

I suffered an arterial blockage in my right leg. There were no previous signs or symptoms. I had no idea what happened or why, except that I could not feel my lower right leg.

The services I accessed were:

Flying Doctor and without them I would have not been able to be treated so quickly and the consequences would have been much worse.

Specialists in vascular department were essential to my treatment.

The way the doctors and nurses  worked together in Fiona Stanley and Kalgoorlie was efficient and beneficial.

This also included physiotherapy and an exercise regime which helped me to become mobile and walk again.

PATS assisted with travel so that I could attend appointments,

And telehealth has saved me a lot of time and travel and enabled me to access specialist appointments

Dear cepheusrq74

Thank you for you kind review. The greatest reward we get as a team is knowing that we have helped someone at a time they were in need.

People are often quick to criticise and less ready to compliment so it means a great deal that you have taken the time to let us know that you had a good experience.

On behalf of the vascular surgical services we wish you well with your continuing recovery.

Kind regards

Neil Doverty

Yes, my review is kind Neil - thank you, and you deserve it. You and your team are doing the best that you can, with what skills and facilities that are available to you. We're not talking about "what would your perfect health system to be like for you?'. We are talking about you and your team doing the best you can to save lives, and provide continuing follow up support and services to those who need them. My heroes.

Dear cepheusrq74,

Thank you for sharing your story with us, urgent treatment was indeed required and I am pleased you received it.

Your experience is a good example of the coordination of several parts of the health service coming together and leading to a positive outcome. Acute services identifying the problem, rapid transfer to Fiona Stanley by RFDS, specialist treatment and rehabilitation, as well as PATS and telehealth support for follow-up. This is the level integration of services we aspire to,

I am happy to hear it has worked for you and I wish you well in your recovery.

Kind Regards

Geraldine M Ennis PSM

Dear Geraldine

Thank you for your response.

You "have taken the words out of my mouth" in describing the response, treatment(s) and level of co- ordination, co-operation and integration between those involved in my medical care.

When you live hundreds of kilometres away from Perth and other large regional centres to be able to access so many areas of excellent and thoroughly professional treatment, and have them work together to ensure your recovery, is a huge benefit for those who live in rural and isolated areas, like me. Than you all.
