"Work Accident"

About: Broome Health Campus / Emergency Department Broome Health Campus / General ward Royal Perth Hospital

(as the patient),

In mid-2016 I fell from a ladder and broke my arm and suffered other injuries. I was conveyed by ambulance to the Broome Hospital. After several scans and x-rays, I was advised it would be best to go to Perth to have my arm pinned and plated. After spending the night in Broome Hospital I was sent home by another doctor. I spent 8 weeks sleeping in a recliner chair unable to move because of the pain. The bone healed wrong and after 19 months I had to have my arm re-broken, pinned and plated. I have had 22 trips to Perth and it has now left me unable ever to return to my employment. It's very depressing when it's the only career you have ever know. It is something that should have never happened if treated correctly.

Dear cricketjq57

This sounds like a very distressing experience and I am truly sorry for that.

Whilst this was a few years ago and staff and processes move on, I would still like to look into the circumstances surrounding your care to see if there is anything we can do to improve services and avoid anyone else having a similar experience.

If you would like to contact me on (08) 9195 2855 I would very much appreciate it.

Thank you for posting!

Sincerely

Wendy

Dear cricketjq57,

I am very sorry for what has happened to you. What you share here sounds like it has been a stressful, painful and prolonged experience and has impacted your life immensely. I understand how difficult it must be to perform even simple daily functions without the full use of your arm and empathise with your situation. From your feedback, it is unclear when or how often you were treated here at Royal Perth so it is difficult for me to comment specifically. However, so that we can review your treatment and support you with your ongoing care, I would like to invite you to please contact our Consumer Engagement Unit on 9224 1637 and speak to one of our team members. I very much encourage you to get in contact with us so that we can assist you.

Yours sincerely

Dr Lesley Bennett
