I was involved in a terrible accident two years ago. I still don’t remember it. I was apparently knocked out at the scene. I was sent to Royal Perth Hospital from Peel Health Campus due to a decline in my gcs - recorded by nurses in the records as 13/15.
Royal Perth took me on and immediately documented - gcs 15/15. I can only go on what my daughter says but she says I slept most of the time and wasn’t able to say the season or month etc for all the time I was in there. They did a cat scan the day after admission and that was it. My daughter begged them to do an MRI as she said I was not normal. She said I was glassy eyed and just appeared to be existing. Apparently I wanted to go home and after 6 days was discharged (which I don’t remember)
It seems to me that those treating me obviously felt there was nothing wrong with me. Life after that was a blur for a while I had OT and physio by Fiona Stanley as I was dumb as - I had terrible headaches and nausea, I couldn’t sleep, and found emails sent to them by me, yet I don’t even remember writing to them but I had and they kept fobbing me off telling me it was concussion, eventually my GP sent me for MRI scans as my knee had been painful since the accident too. They found a fracture in my left knee (since been operated on) and a bleed in my head. Royal Perth said monitor it conservatively and we will see her in 4 weeks after a scan. They moved it to 8 weeks with no scan. However my headaches had got so bad that I was almost vomiting and my left side remained affected. My doctor sent me for another MRI and the bleeding had got even bigger with mass effect. Thank god I have a good GP. She got hold of another doctor.
I have had a heap of OT and physio and surgery on my knee etc since but I am still jobless. I fear for my future all because I do not think the doctor treating me at Royal Perth took the care they should have.
"Why was I not given an MRI?"
