"Poor care while in hospital"

About: Royal Perth Hospital

(as a relative),

I have a relative who whilst in hospital after surgery, was in constant pain. They had been given increased medication, with specific pain killer to be taken prior to any dressing being changed. This was not happening and each time the dressing was changed the pain was excruciating. I spoke to the ward coordinator and made a formal complaint.  I am hoping this will be the last time we have to deal with this as it is not good enough.

Dear 'Extreme Pain',

Thank you for taking the time to inform us of your recent experience at Royal Perth Hospital. I am sincerely sorry that the experience was traumatic for your relative and I am sure for yourself. This is not the standard of care we aspire to achieve, and so whilst I cannot alter what your relative went through, I would very much like to look at how we can prevent this from happening to other patients in the future. I need a bit more information to better investigate what happened and how we could have done better, so could I please ask you to contact our Consumer Engagement unit on 9224 1637 to speak with one of our staff.

Yours sincerely,

Grant Waterer
