"Feedback of Encouragement and a Query"

About: Bass Coast Health Wonthaggi Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a volunteer/advocate),

I"ve began volunteering at the Hospital recently and wish to say that Bass Coast Health, you're doing  great job.  Staff are receptive and encouraging, with patients and volunteers.

From an observers point of view, the Hospital Staff are giving great care.

Just one thought.  I am able to use a mobility scooter.  This is my form of transport and gives me a great amount of freedom, though not as much as driving a vehicle....weather and distance are my setbacks.

I have to say, I am at a loss where to park it when I come to the hospital.  I want to make sure I park it where it will not interfere with people entering and exiting the hospital, yet there seems to be no easy uncover area to do so. Presently I just park it near the wishing well and that has been fine......but it hasn't poured with rain.....YET.

Now if I have to park my rear end on a puddled seat, I will do so, though I'm believing the Hospital would not wish me to.  :)   With our ageing population there may be a need for provision for such things.

I recognize that there is funding for improvements to the hospital and was wondering if consideration has been made for such things.

Maybe there is not a need and it is  just the odd scooter driver having this issue, but I thought it was worth a mention, just in case there was a need and it hadn't been considered.

Another thought....we have accessed the Emergency Dept a couple of times and have been very impressed with the prompt, courteous and exceptional level of care.

Thank you Bass Coast Health

Dear Scooter User,

How wonderful - you are our first volunteer to post on this site - how lovely to hear from you!!

Thank you for providing us with such lovely feedback - of course, as part of the BCH team, you will know that all of our Volunteers hold a very special place in our hearts and minds - so imagine my concern when I read your post - of course! It is so logical that we should provide you with an area for your scooter - the last thing we would want is for you to endure a wet seat! I need to speak to Lynne and Wimal (our Director of Infrastructure ad Director of Support services) and get some advice about where we can make something available - leave it with me! And keep an eye out on the weekly - I will provide you with detail once we have our plan.

Thank you for volunteering at BCH - our volunteers set us apart from others. You do a truly wonderful job.

Kind Regards, Jan.

Dear Scooter User,

Just wanted to update you to let you know that Lynne and Wimal are doing some minor reno's at the front of the hospital in the air lock, to create a scooter park with a power point that will also facilitate charging. Also to let you know that we have a number of scooter parks planned in the new Wonthaggi Hospital expansion. Great suggestion! Thanks and Happy Volunteers week!:)

Kind Regards,

Jan
