"It’s a shame when a doctor lets the whole show down!"

About: Wagga Wagga Base Hospital

(as the patient),

I was admitted to Wagga Wagga Rural Referral Hospital with heart irregularities called arrhythmia. The coronary Care Unit was beautiful, clean and comfortable. The staff were friendly and efficient and reassuring. The doctor, a heart specialist was very ordinary. First visit he sat across the other side of the room, as far away from me as he could get (no I did not have anything infectious to the best of my knowledge) put his hands behind his head and one leg crossed very casually over the other then said ‘so what’s wrong with you?’ I was mortified in front of his resident and registrar doctors. His demeanour never changed and he appeared indecisive at best, and careless at worst!  After several days I was discharged none the wiser about the future impact of my diagnosis.....oh that’s right, I was never told what the diagnosis was until seeing a different cardiologist (a respectful and diligent human being). I still could not work out whether my doctor in hospital thought he was God's gift or whether he just didn’t care.   I wrote of my experience to the hospital on the feedback form, never heard back......why bother.....no one cares.   It’s a shame when a doctor lets the whole show down!
