"Staff parking may be a problem but it shouldn't be my problem"

About: Bunbury Hospital

(as the patient),

I've had the misfortune to sustain significant injuries as a result of a fall. Along with some additional complications I have required ongoing care both as an inpatient and as an outpatient. What that does mean is that I have been visiting the hospital at various time of the day and night.

What I find frustrating beyond belief is the parking - or lack thereof. My wife has had to drive around the hospital car park numerous times trying to find a park. This is bad enough. However, it is made extremely frustrating to drive past staff parking in the visitors' bays. I know this because they use ANF sun visors on their cars or I have witnessed them parking their cars or retrieving their cars at the end of their shifts.

Not just nurses - they are just easier to spot. Cleaners/orderlies and others don't seem to suffer guilt by parking in the visitors' bays. I'm getting more mobile as the time goes by but I watch a fair few elderly people have to park a fair distance from the entrance after dropping off their family for care and hobble on over to the hospital.

Staff parking may be a problem but it shouldn't be my problem.

Dear indigoxg97,

Thank you for your feedback regarding parking at the South West Health Campus. There are around 550 marked parking spaces in front of the hospital entrances and we are striving to ensure that all vehicles belong to people on hospital business. Our Security team is making regular patrols to identify any vehicles where members of the public are parking and then leaving the Campus. I appreciate your information which is helping us to target our observations and inform these drivers how they are impacting people who visit the hospital.

In addition, future redevelopment plans at the hospital include construction works to increase the number of public car park spaces, and short-term options to increase the number of parking bays are underway. Thanks again for your feedback to help us improve the availability of car parking spaces.

Regards

Glen Matters
