"Continual refusals to do imaging by Emergency Dept"

About: Sale Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a relative),

My spouse and I have been admitted on separate occasions for serious back injuries. I personally was sent home with one pill then subsequently readmitted via ambulance the next day. After continually demanding imaging on my back, I was found to have a segregated disc that required immediate surgery. My spouse has also been admitted for a reoccurring back injury. Again emergency refused to do any CT or MRI scan but will do an x-ray of which they admit won't show anything. I believe cost rather than patients health seems to be the issue with this hospital. We are again demanding proper imaging due to numerous issues.

Dear Woodray,

My name is Mandy and I am the Director of Nursing at Central Gippsland Health.

Thank you for taking the time to write your story. I am sorry that you and your spouse have had these experiences. I hope that you are both feeling better.

I am responding to your story in the first instance, as our Medical Director – Dr Suhan, is not here today, and I wanted to acknowledge your story. Dr Suhan will be back next week and will investigate further.

It would be helpful if you were able to provide a little more detail – if you feel you can, please contact Dr Suhan on 5143 8700 or via email at suhan.baskar@cghs.com.au. I know she would appreciate the opportunity to talk to you. Thank you.

Kind regards

Mandy

Dear Woodray,

My name is Dr Suhan Baskar and I am the Director of Medical Services

Thank you for telling us your story. We are really sorry that you had such an unfortunate experience. We want to assure you that our primary goal is to ensure we provide high quality care to our community and our secondary responsibility is to ensure we manage our resources efficiently so that our community can get the most from the government funding we receive.

We endeavour to provide the right care at the right time to all of our patients. This includes minimising our patient’s exposure to radiation. Unfortunately we do not always get it right, but we want to learn from your feedback and make improvements to our service.

If you would like to give me more information, I would be happy to thoroughly investigate what happened for you and your wife. This would enable us to learn from your experience.

If there is anything further we can do for you at this time please don’t hesitate to contact me on (03) 5143 8700 or suhan.baskar@cghs.com.au

Suhan
