"My experience at Logan House"

About: Logan House Residential Rehabilitation Facility

(as the patient),

Logan House was a huge wake up call. Some of the staff there really want to see you strive and encourage you. Others are by the textbook and educate you through their teachings. It’s nice to see volunteers and staff that have also been through addictions.

My case manager thoroughly disappointed me. I needed psych appointments and I was probably one of the only people that didn’t get a psychiatrist appointment in the time I was there. On departure, I feel I was blamed for ‘cancelling’ appointments. I worked there and worked relentlessly for a few weeks and didn’t get my pay. It took up most of my recovery. While I enjoyed it, there wasn’t much recognition and I was pulled from groups to attend to the work.

What made me get through and learn so much was the other people recovering. I have made life long friends. Everyone you meet are the most genuine and non-judgmental people you will ever meet and the community is amazing. While a lot can happen in a day at Logan House...I enjoyed it.

But I believe there is a lot to be fixed. I saw a lot of residents being encouraged and told to leave the program when they had doubts about themselves to make room for new residents. Very sad. 6 weeks is a drop in the ocean and during my time 12 weeks was unheard of.

I hope you can adjust these mistakes Logan House because a lot of the residents see you as money pushers. There are a few staff that are so amazing and the meetings are great (need a lot more A. A.) but you have huge flaws in my opinion.

Hello Sober

Thank you for taking the time to tell us the story of your experience at Logan House.

I am concerned that your experience has left you disappointed, blamed, the contribution of your work unrecognised and your need for a psych appointment unmet.

It is great to know that your experience had enjoyable periods and thank you for your recognition of the contribution of staff and fellow residents during your stay. Thank you, too, for your suggestions on what you believe are mistakes or flaws such as length of stay and 'money pushing'.

Residential rehabilitation services are very complex entities. Lives Lived Well has a commitment to continuous improvement and we are constantly reviewing our services to see if they are meeting the needs of our clients and residents including length of stay which may be different for each individual. There are constant efforts to improve our referral and support services for residents and to improve transitions through services. In this process there are things that improve our services and some things that do not. We know that good intentions do not always show through but our commitment to better services is part of Lives Lived Well culture.

I have spoken to the Manager of Logan House, Grant Robin, and he would welcome any further comments and/or specific examples you may have that would help him and Lives Lived Well staff to understand the detail of your comments and improve our services. Please contact Grant on 0403 434 677.

I wish you all the best in the next steps of your journey.

Warm regards

Gerard
