"Unprofessional Work Behaviour"

About: Royal Perth Hospital

(as a relative),

My relative was in the ICU ward at Royal Perth Hospital recently. I believe one of the nurses constantly exhibited unprofessional behaviour. They were erratic, unfocused, inattentive and didn't seem to be listening most of the time. Constantly overheard making catty remarks both to/about their colleagues in front of patients and other colleagues. They were also overheard talking about admitting themselves into Perth Clinic for their mental health issues. In my opinion, someone who is mentally unstable and unprofessional should not be responsible for the health and lives of other people.

Dear raintr63,

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. I apologise that this was your experience and that of your loved one in our hospital. It is not the level of service we strive to provide and not the behaviour we expect of our staff. I have discussed your feedback with the Nurse Unit Manager of the Intensive Care Unit and she would like to respond to you in person. Again I apologise for your experience.

Yours sincerely

Dr Lesley Bennett

Dear raintr63,

I apologise, what you describe here is not the behaviour I expect from the staff in my team and not the experience that we want for our patients and their loved ones. So that I can look into the specifics of this incident and use this information to improve our practices and service delivery, can I ask that you please contact the Consumer Engagement Unit on 9224 1637 and ask them to put you in contact with me. Receiving your feedback directly will allow me to get the information I need to give this matter the attention that it deserves.

Kind regards

Karen Goodman
