"Poor GP diagnosis"

About: Geraldton Hospital / Emergency Department Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital Panaceum Seacrest

(as a parent/guardian),

My baby got a respiratory illness shortly after birth, we saw various doctors (GPs and Emergency Department) over several months because the symptoms wouldn't go away and my child sometimes had coughing fits. Because my child was happy looking and their chest sounded clear the doctors didn't think it was necessary to do bloods or swabs.

My child broke out in a viral rash while we were interstate, Emergency Department didn't pay much attention to the history of my child's cough and refused to take bloods because my child was active and happy looking.

After several months, I insisted for bloods to be done, my baby had gone too long being happy looking but physically not 100%. The GP still seemed a little hesitant and concerned it would be painful for bub. At this stage my child had been through so much, a needle sting will only last a minute and would relieve us of the unknown.

Well what do you know, bloods were abnormal. I wasn't surprised, but relieved we had something we could treat.

My child has now had 2 hospital admissions due to respiratory infections.

I am concerned that my child's lungs have been damaged by a bug that could have been found if doctors had only listened and done a simple swab or blood test to rule it out very early on. I need to see a respiratory specialist to confirm my suspicions.
