"Poor care and incorrect medication for my parent"

About: The Townsville Hospital

(as a relative),

I am speaking on behalf of my parent who had surgery recently on their chest, as they had a tumour removed. The surgery was supposed to be on a Tuesday however, after an all day wait with no update of what was going on my parent was then sent back to their ward and told their  surgery would be the next day. With those kinds of surgeries, you are sent to the ICU for the night to monitor. Surgery went well, it was the poor service in the ward afterwards. For my parent to have to ask for assistance getting comfortable and then get told, oh you can do it yourself, I feel is absolutely appalling. To be seen only once by the nurse on call at the time while my parent, who had major surgery, was in pain, I feel is disgusting.

To my further horror my parent was given the wrong medication. My parent had read the name on the prescription and it wasn't correct. My parent had already taken around 3 tablets that weren't theirs, before finding out they were the incorrect tablets. To which the doctor said, just as well you didn't take this pill with that pill otherwise you would be in trouble.

This is a tiny speck of the story of what I feel is absolutely appalling behaviour, incompetency, lack of passion and care from the nurses at the Townsville Hospital.
