"Late admission notifications"

About: Prince of Wales Hospital

(as the patient),

The past six months or so, I have been receiving notifications for procedures/surgery from Admissions at Prince of Wales Public Hospital six or more days from date of notification. It does not take that long to get from the hospital to where I live.

I received one the day before procedure. I was told that a neighbour received one the day after their procedure. I know who to chase down to get confirmation. I'm not sure that others know.

I feel the lateness causes anxiety and stress.

I find it hard to believe that Australia Post is that bad. Or might there be a third party who doesn't realise that patients need to receive POW mail much sooner than six days?

Dear lyraby89,

This is very useful feedback. Clearly the mail is not as fast as we would have hoped.

I had a discussion with the admissions team, and they have decided if we are unable to give three weeks written notice, we shall contact patients directly by phone to confirm dates. Previously this was two weeks, but as you suggest this has led to a notice period that is too short for many of our patients.

That change should improve the service for surgical patients. If you are experiencing delays in notification for other appointments at Prince of Wales, or this does not resolve your concern, do let us know through the following email address;

SESLHD-GeneralManager-POWHSSEH@health.nsw.gov.au

Thank you for taking the time to write.

Kind regards,

Alan Porritt
