"Excellent service, care and treatment from medical staff across several hospitals"

About: Geraldton Hospital Meekatharra Hospital Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital

(as the patient),

I recently presented to the Meekatharra Hospital with chest pains and immediately was taken into the Emergency Department (ED) for tests and observation. Blood tests given throughout the day fortunately showed no heart damage, but my symptoms were still cause for concern, making it very hard for the doctor to determine exactly what was causing my discomfort.

I was given pain relief and later would be admitted, monitored overnight and then flown via the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) to Geraldton Hospital for further testing the next morning. I awoke with pain early the next morning and the duty nurse called the doctor who directed staff to administer pain relief and prep me for the flight to Geraldton.

I was transferred by ambulance to the Meekatharra airstrip and then placed on the RFDS plane to Geraldton. I can't speak more highly of the wonderful Naomi (head nurse) and staff & as directed by the doctor (top bloke) at Meekatharra Hospital. Even after they transferred me to Geraldton, the doctor and head nurse followed up with phone calls to check on me - how great is that!

I must say that the staff on my RFDS flight were also second to none. What a great bunch of people and my trip made bearable by the excellent care I received. I then arrived in Geraldton and was transferred to the ED at the Geraldton Hospital where I met the duty nurse in charge of the ED- Brie-Ann who did a great job of looking after me too. I underwent further tests throughout the day and was relieved when they were finally able to give me some stronger pain relief, then I was admitted and transferred up to a ward to settle in for the evening.

During the course of the next few days I was seen by a doctor who had a plan for my treatment, however, after this, when doctor was doing his rounds he informed me that he would be sending me to Perth for a particular investigative test. I was quite relieved as all other tests up to this point had not really given a clear diagnosis, but I knew that this would probably determine the cause of my ongoing pain. I would be kept in Geraldton until a bed at Sir Charles Gairdner became available.

When this happened, the head ward nurse informed me that a bed was available and that she would book a commercial flight for the next day. I was transferred by taxi to the Geraldton airport. I would like to thank the doctor & all the staff at the Geraldton Hospital for their excellent care during my stay. Everybody was so helpful and supportive. Thanks gang!

I arrived in Perth and transferred by taxi to Charlie Gairdner and was immediately shown to the Cardiology Ward where I was admitted and informed that I would be having my test the following morning.

The test was done at that hospital with a diagnosis made, a procedure done and then I was sent to rest. When I awoke, my spouse told me that the Cardiac Rehabilitation Nurse had dropped in to discuss my care, leaving some great information about services that are available to me and my heart health going forward. She has also followed up with a couple of phone calls since I have been discharged. Thanks Tricia!

I was discharged the day after my procedure. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the doctor and all the staff in the Cardiology Ward for the exceptional care I received - what a great crew I had looking after me. Thanks!
