I don't even know where to begin. My relative is heavily pregnant. Was told (after blood tests) it is likely that she has blood clots in her lungs, started giving her injections in her stomach. Further testing. She has Influenza A. Needs to be transferred to Fiona Stanley Hospital as this is where the machines are to do the test and confirm blood clots (even though Peel Hospital had started injections anyway).
Well Fiona Stanley Hospital refused to take her due to having influenza A. I'm sorry, what? A hospital refusing someone because they are sick?! Almost laughable. After all day being in Peel Hospital and being starving and bringing this to the attention of staff, she was brought in sandwiches and told, there is deli meat in some of the sandwiches and because you are pregnant you will just have to pick that out! Wow!
Her doctor was fighting Fiona Stanley Hospital to push for her to go. She then refused on the second afternoon to have any more injections in her belly until there is confirmation of clot in the lungs. Offered a cat scan, along with the risk. Wow. After all of this there is actually no clot! Just before midnight on her second night at Peel Hospital, she is told she can go home and if she can't find someone to pick her up she can get an Uber!
I cannot even begin to express my anger and absolute disgust in, what I feel, is incompetence that does not even make sense in this case! I feel that Peel Hospital has a bad name and as for Fiona Stanley Hospital refusing to take a patient?! Really? We are told to go to hospital or the doctors with signs of the flu and to take it seriously. Again, wow. Trying to find words to address this is really hard, so upsetting for my relative who is quite shy and just can't get her head around what has happened. Absolutely disgusting!
