"Heartbreaking end of life care"

About: Wantirna Health / Palliative Care Inpatient Unit

(as a relative),

Since my Grandparent was admitted to Wantirna Health the experience for my grandparent and my family has been horrendous.

There seems to be utter incompetance in ensuring medications are administered - key medications have been missed on numerous occasions, causing pain and deterioration. I found a dangerous tablet on the floor, raised this with medical staff though it was completely brushed off.

Only a handful of staff have shown the care and compassion you would expect for someone at the end of their life. The remainder have been cold, uninterested or too busy.

Nurses are apparently too busy to take the time to communicate with my Grandparent who is unable to speak. We have to keep asking for personal care/hygiene assistance as they don't do it frequently enough.

If your loved one is considered "high needs", I feel that they want to completely sedate them for convenience rather than clinical reasons. This has been the case for my Grandparent and I have read other reviews about this approach from Wantirna Health.

A truly horrible and heartbreaking experience. In my opinion, Wantira Health is disgraceful.

Dear swingxp73,

Many thanks for taking the time to share feedback regarding your experience with your grandparent's care at Wantirna Health. I am very sorry it has not been a positive one and I was distressed to read your comments.

In order for us to follow up your particular circumstances, I would like to invite you to contact one of our Patient Relations Advisors in the Eastern Health Centre for Patient Experience either by calling 1800 EASTERN or by emailing feedback@easternhealth.org.au. If you choose to call please be aware that it is possible that the Patient Relations Advisors may be on another call at the time you ring and if so you will be invited to leave a message so they can return your call.

I hope you will make contact soon and thank you again.

Kind regards

David
