"Western Australian health service experience"

About: Broome Health Campus / Emergency Department Kununurra Hospital

(as the patient),

Recently, I suddenly became very ill with diarrhoea and vomiting. I was driven to a local General Practitioner Clinic (GP) and a nurse there put me on a drip. They were very worried about me, so after speaking with the doctors at Kununurra, it was decided that I would be taken by ambulance, to Kununurra Hospital later on that day. My treatment at the GP was very professional and caring but the ride in the 19 year old ambulance vehicle was horrible. I was then admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) ward suffering from severe dehydration.

My treatment and care at Kununurra Hospital was first class. The doctors and nurses were very competent, kind and caring and could not have done more to help with my recovery. The doctors thought that I needed a hospital with more facilities, so after a couple of days I was transferred by the flying doctor to Broome hospital.

Because of the great treatment I had received in Kununurra Hospital and Broome Hospital, I quickly recovered and after a few days in the ICU, I was discharged in Broome.

A few days after being discharged, the nurse from the GP clinic rang me to see how I was and then a few days later the doctor from Broome rang to ask how I was and to tell me that I had been suffering from salmonella poisoning.

My very worried partner was with me at all times while I was in Kununurra Hospital and all the staff went out of their way to look after them and support them in every way.

I would like to express my sincere gratitude and thanks to all the wonderful staff that I was fortunate enough to have looking after me and my partner through that difficult time.

I must thank the ambulance driver for doing their best to make my ride bearable in such an outdated vehicle and I feel for other patients who must ride in this vehicle, especially in summer.

Dear Mono,

Thank you for your lovely feedback about our service at Broome Hospital. I am very happy to hear you are feeling much better and that the care you received was of a very high standard. Our staff make sure that not only do they care for our patients but they also look after their families as well. It is lovely to be recognised for this.

I will pass on your thanks to everyone involved in your care and I wish you continued good health.

Warm regards
