I had a fall and broke both my ankles, I was transferred from another hospital to Fiona Stanley Hospital Short Stay Unit until I had surgery to fix my right ankle, overall it was ok. I woke up in the Orthopaedic Ward after surgery in a room by myself which was great because of the pain and being so tired, I could rest.
I was there for a few days, then at 9 pm on the Sunday night I got taken out of this room back to Short Stay Unit, which I felt was so busy and that the nurses were run off their feet. I was very upset as I wasn’t getting any rest and I was there for 5 days.
Overall it was ok, there were 3 nurses who were fantastic but I felt others were too busy which I understand but I was relying on them, being that I was unable to walk. It was debilitating, to say the least. The doctors and surgeons who did my surgery were fantastic and I can’t thank you all enough.
Just my care in the Short Stay Unit raised my concerns, not the best experience.
"Inconsistent care"
