"Appreciation for staff"

Thank you for your beautiful comment of appreciation shown to an old man by a young nurse. In theatre, we have graduate nurses and other young nurses who are learning how to look after patients - preparing them for surgery, helping with anaesthetics and procedure and then recovery.

Elderly patients can have more specific needs and it is pleasing to know you experienced kindness and care. I will pass on your comments to all the theatre girls and thank you for taking the time to express your appreciation to all. I hope you are recovering well.

What a charming comment you make. Nurses are taught in their training to care for people of all ages, shapes and sizes, ethnic background and diversity. The reality in practice may be somewhat more difficult with the impact of patient loads, time constraints and various complex demands on the nurses time and emotions. I really value the fact that you have identified that despite being born in different eras and having different experiences this nurse was able to bridge the age difference and provide the care you needed on this day. This is truly person-centred care, and that is what we aim to provide.
