"Four hour waiting period with no treatment"

About: Nepean Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a parent/guardian),

My child and their partner recently attended the Emergency Department of Nepean Hospital.

My child was experiencing chest pain and having trouble breathing, and had recently been diagnosed with Influenza B. They went through triage but others were seen before them- even those coming in afterwards. My child was vomiting and unable to breathe, but no one spoke to them or tried to help, and were not even offered water or oxygen. They were eventually given a chest X-ray, blood tests and electrocardiogram - but no results were given, nor were they asked to come back or call for results. They were told it didn’t matter what the results were because it was just influenza. None of the staff smiled, no one checked on them, and two doctors stood outside the cubicle for forty minutes talking about their personal lives.

They waited for more than four hours, and were then discharged early in the morning, with no treatment.
