(as the patient),

I presented to Kerang Hospital with severe chest pain.

Was given immediate attention, all the various obs were done - use of my own nitro lingual spray lessened pain. Incidentally, the Senior Nurse had a face-to-face consultation with a Doctor via video link as there are no GPs available over the weekend, presenting them with the information. The Senior Nurse then brought the phone in to me and I had a face-to-face talk with the Doctor. It worked extremely well, I must say.

The Doctor said it seemed a good idea for me to stay overnight for further obs and I was quite happy to do as advised. Several ECGs were done, plus several bloods taken a few hours apart.

I was treated at all times with professional care and consideration. I was discharged the next morning and made a follow-up appointment with my GP.

I am responding on behalf of the Nurse Unit Manager of Acute ward, who is away from her desk for a few days.

Thank you for telling your story. The service where we have a Doctor on the phone who speaks to you through a videolink and then works out a plan for your care with you and the nurse is called 'My Emergency Doctor App'. These doctors are highly skilled and are set up specifically to provide this service to patients like yourself. The hospital who uses this service pays for the consultation to occur. It allows patients to have the medical care they need after hours or when our local Doctors are so busy. Using this videolink allows the nurses to get you assessed and some treatment started and then your local Doctor can take over the care, or can follow you up at the clinic.

The use of the My Emergency Doctor app lets our own local Doctors have a bit more of a rest in the evenings or on the weekends, so that they can have the R and R they need for the next week of work.

I am so pleased that you found this service useful, and again thank you for taking the time to tell others about your situation.
