"1st class care"

About: Merredin Hospital (Aged Care)

(as a service user),

I am an elderly paraplegic. I had done damage to my left buttock but did not realise it for some weeks. I went to my GP and was treated for months but it got worse.

I was admitted to the Merredin Hospital with a fairly serious wound. The staff were outstanding. They liaised with the Royal Perth Hospital (RPH) and Fiona Stanley Hospital (FSH) for advice on how to treat it, including sending photos of the wound bi-weekly.

I was getting treated every second day. The care was wonderful and they did the best they could.

In the end, they could not treat it and I had to go to a different hospital under the care of a Plastic Surgeon. However, I want the people at Merredin Hospital to know they have done a very good job and have truly had an amazing impact on my life.

I was sorry to leave because the food was that good. I have had the best care possible. Meals, ward care etc. 1st class.

I know that there will be times in the future this hospital will be able to keep me healthy. I am grateful for the help given.

Dear aurigafe97,

Thank you for taking the time to share your wonderful experience with the Merredin Health Service.

The staff from the WA Country Health Service - Wheatbelt pride themselves on providing high quality, compassionate care and ensuring that patients receive the best care in the best place at all times.

It was pleasing to see that our staff proactively sought specialist wound care management advice from RPH and FSH. After all, the provision of high-quality health care is contingent on great communication and teamwork, and knowing how and when to seek expert assistance.

Stories like yours emphasise the importance of ensuring robust systems are in place to support rural clinicians in the delivery of contemporary health care.

I will take great pleasure in passing on your kind words to the staff, along with my own appreciation. Thank you for using Patient Opinion to share your story. I wish you well with your recovery.

Warm regards

Sean
