My parent was admitted and the following events occurred, shocking us all. Even a nurse said to me that patient care is atrocious.
My parent asked if they should continue their medication. Staff said yes, have what you normally have. However, staff proceeded to also administer the same medication. For example, my parent was taking their aspirin tablets and staff was also injecting them with aspirin.
Pitch black one night, my parent got caught on a chord trying to get to the toilet, smashed their head on next bed and their I.V ripped out. Following day, my parent told the nurse they were going to be sick. The nurse asked what they wanted but gave no help so another patient rushed my parent to their kidney bowl.
Another patient suggested my parent could be vomiting because of the head hit during the night, only then the staff did sort this!
My parent was allowed to eat a chicken and rice meal. The next day, staff gave it to my parent again then took it away saying it's not theirs.
The nurses who treated my parent seemed to rarely know how to insert an I.V portal and made a mess of my parent's arm. My parent was discharged, got worse so we took them to another hospital, where they did tests and found extra conditions that needed treating. My parent is now on the mend.
This is just a sample of events that went on.
My parent's partner presented in agony 5 times at Rockingham General Hospital last year and was sent home each time after being told they couldn't keep them in for back pain. On the 6th occasion, they went in an ambulance and were finally scanned and diagnosed with terminal bone cancer. They died earlier this year.
