I was recently present in the Outpatient Clinic at Kalgoorlie Hospital. My relative was the patient and I was escorting them to their specialist appointment.
Whilst waiting I witnessed the most amazing and thoughtful care from the staff to a patient that I thought deserved a mention - it made me extremely proud.
A patient with crutches presented for their appointment early and wanted to advise staff of their arrival but also needed to have an X-ray done. The patient didn't seem to know their way around the hospital.
Without hesitation, the lovely Clerk offered the patient a seat whilst she got someone able to take them up to Medical Imaging without needing to go back outside the building. Needless to say, the patient was really thankful of the offer.
I watched on with pride as the Clerk had other patients waiting to check-in and quickly got support from her colleagues based in the same section. Without hesitation, Karen (unsure of her position) was in the waiting area introducing herself and offering to take the patient on crutches through to Medical Imaging. Karen was so lovely and welcoming, she showed compassion and genuine empathy in making the patient's experience easier for them.
Well done to the Outpatients Team, the lovely Clerk (I'm sorry I didn't get her name) and Karen for their swift action in getting the best outcome for their patient.
