"ENT Nightmare"

About: Royal Prince Alfred Hospital

(as the patient),

I have had two previous nasal surgeries to remove polyps and extra drainage. I now need the surgery again. I saw the ENT team at Royal Prince Alfred (RPA) in Sydney and they looked at the CT scan. They said I needed the surgery within six months because my nasal passages were housing infection and causing infection to get into my transplanted lungs, causing high temperatures as well as tightness in chest, being breathless, having no energy, coughing up crap etc.

One of my Registrars at RPA kept on top of them to find out a date. They got back to my Registrar saying I was booked in. Which was great as I had been waiting about six months.

The closer the date got I still had not received any confirmation letter or instructions, so I contacted my clinical nurse at RPA who chased up what was going on. It took the Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) team just over a week and a half to finally call back my Registrar after they had to hound them. They told them that even though they had said I had been booked in they had not booked me in their end. They apparently said to my clinical nurse they may be able to find room for me in December...maybe. They got in contact with one of the heads of ENT. Who also took over a week to get back onto them. I believe my clinical nurse asked them to honour the date they had said they booked me in for. Their answer allegedly was no. My clinical nurse then told them that I was become increasingly sick more often because of the nasal problems. This included one trip into the ER when I got extremely sick, and damage was being done to my transplanted lungs. According to the nurse, their response was basically that sorry they didn't care. I am now on the cancellation list and now am so up in the air as to when I may get the surgery.

I am now on antibiotics and sick two weeks out of every month now. I am mentally exhausted and upset with everything that has happened and their response of basically not caring. Even though when I saw ENT in clinic they said I needed the surgery within six months.
