The whole idea of having surgery was nerve-wracking but with lots of love and support from my spouse, family, friends and the health workers it was easy to keep a positive mind frame.
This was continuously supported as we were met by the kind meet-and-greet volunteers who took us to the day surgery office where we had a good laugh with the admin staff and we took a seat outside with a view of the Japanese garden. I would suggest that the whole waiting bay be moved out to have a view as the waiting room was so small and a bit depressing but outside with the garden and the sky in sight, I feel it can only bring up positive feelings which is so important in this situation. Once I was brought into the next stage of waiting the nurses were very caring, attentive and respectful of my needs.
This sense of care, kindness and support continued with each step as I was guided into the theatre to go under for my surgery. I was so impressed by the genuine humanity of the each level of staff and really experienced the genuine sense of care and I was very grateful for the health cover we are awarded in this country. All my expenses were covered by medicare and the friendly atmosphere I believe only helped my recovery as the next day I had no pain, took no more medication and although my surgery was minor I truly believe each staff member is to thank for holding a space of genuine healing.
Thank you, you should all be commended.
