"Delay in patient's transfer"

About: Armadale Hospital / Orthopaedic/Trauma Outpatient Clinic

(as a relative),

Nearly three weeks ago, my parent slipped and fell whilst showering, and ended up cracking their pelvis and hip joint bone. They were on holiday at the time, so they were admitted to Margaret River Regional Hospital.

We have been told my parent will be in the hospital for at least six weeks. We asked if they could be transferred to the Armadale Hospital which is closer to home. The staff at Margaret River Regional Hospital set things in motion to honour our request and letters have been emailed from their Doctor, Physiotherapist and the Occupational Therapist. Basically, my parent has been accepted to go to the Armadale Hospital but is still waiting to be transferred.

Our family has had to return home as our holiday came to an end, and we have had to leave my parent in the hospital. They are elderly with no family or friends in the region and are getting very depressed and agitated. We talk to my parent every day, but they want to get to the Armadale Hospital, so they can at least get to see their spouse.

Dear JBX2,

I was saddened to hear that your parent sustained an injury while on holiday and requires lengthy hospital treatment. This is a very unfortunate way to end a holiday. I do apologise for the delay in being transferred from Margaret River Regional Hospital to Armadale Hospital.

We recently had a transfer from Margaret River Regional Hospital. I hope this was your parent and that they are now closer to family. I wish them well on their recovery.

If you feel you would like to discuss any of the issues with your parent’s transfer in more detail, please do not hesitate to contact our Consumer Liaison Officer on (08) 9391 1153 or AKG_ConsumerLiaison@health.wa.gov.au
