"Frustration with some nurses"

About: Fiona Stanley Hospital

(as the patient),

It takes only 1 bad apple to spoil the whole barrel.

The nurses in the majority are excellent, but I believe this can't be said about all of them.

Being bedridden, the only way to pass urine was into a bottle. In my case, 3 bottles were full and no other bottles supplied. The nurse took 2 hours to respond to my request for the bottles to be replaced or at least emptied.

This was done immediately by a different nurse when they knew. This was not during the night but mid-morning. The first nurse would come into the room, switch off the call button and mutter that they would be back, not to be seen again until another press of the call button after a 10-minute wait.

Several times the nurse was carrying on, what I believe was, a private conversation on a mobile phone. I feel that this nurse should be fully trained.

Dear chamaeleondr46,

Thank you for taking the time to write to us about your recent stay at Fiona Stanley Hospital. I was very glad to hear that your experience was mostly a positive one and that the nursing staff on the whole were excellent.

I was disappointed to hear that the care you received from one of the nurses was not to the high standard that we pride ourselves on as an organisation. I am unable to look into the matter without some more detail. If you would like us to follow up further can you please contact us on 6152 4013.

Again, thank you for taking the time to share your story with us.

I hope you are recovering well.

I believe better supervision of young nurses would go a long way to improve your care, at the moment I feel the care provided borders on elder abuse by this nurse.
