"Excellent Care"

About: Bunbury Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

Recently I had taken a medication that I had been previously prescribed and within 15 minutes I had pins and needles all through my body and was in a lot of pain. Then I started itching everywhere - all over my body. My vision went blurry and I couldn't walk properly so I took myself to bed for an hour to rest up.

When I couldn't get to sleep with all the scratching I got up to call my spouse, but I collapsed on the way to my phone. When I regathered myself, I crawled to my phone and contacted my spouse who came home from work straight away. My spouse then took me up to ED at Bunbury Hospital. The nurse in triage took my blood pressure and it was very low - 67 over 37 I think it was. The nurses came straight away with a wheelchair and I hobbled in and they wheeled me in. The staff remained calm and focused and reassured my spouse that I needed to have adrenaline as I've had a life threatening anaphylaxis reaction to the drug Cephalix.

The nurses helped me on the bed and laid it down for me to get my blood pressure up. The dr asked the nurse to give me a second shot of adrenaline and remained with me to monitor my well being. When I felt better and could sit up the dr explained to me what had happened and made contact with my GP to put it on my medical records that I was not to be given the drug Cephalix again.

After some more monitoring, I was given a different medicine to treat my illness and some tasty sandwiches and orange juice! I was then wheeled to Day Stay where again I was greeted with warm, caring faces and a nice hot cup of coffee! The doctors and nurses were professional, kind, caring, life-saving - and very funny too!

Thank you to all the brilliant staff, in front of me, and those behind the scenes for your care recently. We really appreciate it!
