Recently my young child had some health issues identified at Kalgoorlie Health Campus. While in ED, they had great difficulty in drawing blood from my child- it took 4 attempts before they were able to obtain a sample. This was extremely distressing and traumatic for my child. Follow up bloods were required 2 weeks later and Dr Rafiq arranged for us to have the blood draw done at his Nurse Clinic in the Outpatients Department. He was able to obtain the follow-up sample swiftly in one attempt.
My other child also requires regular blood tests due to their genetic disorder and has done since they were a baby. Dr Rafiq has arranged for us to get the blood draws done as an outpatient in the Children's Ward as going to a blood collection place has always been unsuccessful for my child due to their high anxiety levels and the methods they use to draw blood.
Dr Rafiq's method has always been much more successful and less traumatic for my child with genetic disorder. One of the samples required for my other child requires them to be calm as heightened levels of stress affect the results of the sample. Since they have been having the blood draws done on the ward or in outpatients by Dr Rafiq, the results have always been accurate. Tests done at another blood collection place in the early days were always inaccurate due to the stress levels my child was under - no slur on the staff of that place, it is just more successful doing it Dr Rafiq's way.
This Nurse Clinic is very beneficial for us as a family as going to blood collection places is not the right fit for my children. His nurse clinic in outpatients is a wonderful incentive and he is such a caring Doctor, making sure the needs of my children are met with as little trauma to them as possible.
