"Excellent life-saving care received at Maroondah Hospital ED"

About: Maroondah Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

I presented at Maroondah Hospital ED feeling very unwell. I had Supraventricular Tachycardia (SVT) with symptoms such as chest pain, confusion, feeling unsteady in my feet and a bit confused. As soon as I was triaged, I was quickly moved into resus.

The doctors and nurses cared for me with the utmost professionalism and although I felt so unwell, I felt safe and I was well informed about everything that they were doing and what the plan was. After several non-drug, different options were tried, they then used a medication which almost immediately took effect. 

After I was stabilised, I was taken for a chest X-ray and then moved to Short Stay for observation and then discharged after a number of hours. They also took very good care of my spouse.

All staff we encountered acted in a professional manner and couldn’t be faulted. We are grateful.

Thank you so much for sharing this feedback on your positive experience when you attended the Emergency Department at Maroondah Hospital. I was so pleased to read how the staff treated and cared for you, but just as importantly how they made you and your spouse feel.

Its very clear to me the staff demonstrated the Eastern Health values of Patients First, Kindness, Respect, Excellence, Agility and Humility and it will give me great pleasure to share your comments with them and their manager.

Staff work in health, and specifically Emergency Departments, to care and treat people when they can be at their most vulnerable. This must have been a very stressful time for you and I am so proud your experience was so positive.

I trust you have returned to good health and you are able to enjoy all that life offers.

Thanks, David.

They were superb. You have every right to feel so proud of them and the way they worked so well as a team.

I slept most of yesterday but have started to ease back into things today.
