"Total lack of medical care"

About: Northside Cremorne Clinic

(as a carer),

My spouse has PTSD and was drinking heavily. They booked into the clinic for rehab and was admitted recently. My spouse arrived sick with flu-like symptoms, shortness of breath, bad aches all over their body and was exhausted. They deteriorated rapidly. My spouse had a cough so intense they were nearly choking. Their oxygen level was only 77 percent. This was measured by a staff member and I believe nothing done to assist my spouse. I feel they clearly needed oxygen but this was ignored. I believe they were too ill medically to get out of bed for 3 days, they had no bathroom in their room and they could barely walk to the bathroom. They were weak in the body and were shaking, running hot and cold with a temperature.

At no time was my spouse ever offered any medical assistance even though they were getting worse by the hour. I rang the clinic and said I wanted my spouse home and put on the earliest plane possible so I could get them to a large medical facility ASAP.  My spouse was taken to the airport where they became so ill they said they passed out while sitting at the gate for their plane. As a result, they missed their flight (due to being unconscious) and had to wait hours at the airport for another flight.

I called the ambulance to my spouse they were immediately admitted to hospital where they have been diagnosed with bad double pneumonia. They are still in hospital and very ill.

To treat a patient in hospital like this is, I feel, abhorrent and neglectful and demonstrates a lack of duty of care. I believe it should have been the responsibility of nursing staff to call an ambulance and have my spouse admitted to a hospital where they could be treated appropriately.

Every time my spouse asked for something, down to tissues, they were told that the service doesn't provide that. Not once did anyone listen to their chest dispute it being obvious they were suffering.

I know the Northside Clinic is predominately a mental health hospital but I can’t help wondering why the hospital offers no support or treatment if a mentally disabled person also acquires a sickness in their body.

I must stress Dr Graham was nice and saw my spouse twice and the nurse called Mel kept me informed of my spouse's condition. However, at no time was my spouse ever assisted by a GP. I feel this is outrageous and Ramsay Group needs to investigate this further so no other patient experiences the lack of care my spouse did. Again, I stress I have no issue with Dr Graham or Mel as they provided a mental health service but there was no doctor at the clinic to assist physically.
