"Inadequate care"

About: Prince of Wales Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

I have had a rare chronic pain condition 24/7 for a few years and have managed it until it became worse. I tried to get appointments but met with message machines only. After 5 hours of trying I did the only thing I thought I could do to try and see someone, I rang an ambulance.

Then I did see an emergency doctor after 3 hours which I expected but they could only recommend I get referrals for appointments in the future. I choose to at least talk to a specialist in the hospital re options and was told it could take a while. Since my only option was to leave with no answers and endure the pain, I chose to wait patiently for 6 more hours until I was basically told by a senior doctor to leave as they couldn't help complex problems like mine.

I left angry, upset that I  had reached out for help because I was desperate and had been turned away with 2 phone numbers only, to cope without any real help.

We are upset to read that this experience was one in which you did not receive the care you required to better manage your pain. It is understandable that you left feeling disappointed and frustrated at the lack of assistance you received.
