"Lost use of my left arm"

About: Collie Hospital

(as the patient),

Over a number of months, I was losing the use of my left arm through pain between the elbow and shoulder. I thought I might have a shoulder issue because I couldn't raise my arm very far and it ached all the time to the point of waking me up at night. I live on a farm and really couldn't imagine doing all the jobs I need to do with only 1 good arm (my right arm) which was also having issues with wrist pain.

My doctor referred me to Alison for Physio at the Collie Regional Hospital. Alison asked me a lot of questions then suggested I try a few easy 'neck' exercises. I went home over the moon for the improvements in just that one visit. Alison has seen me twice since and I have been doing the daily exercises she has suggested and I feel back to my old self again. The right wrist problem has also abated somewhat with not overusing and self-massage in the palm of my hand. Alison identified that I was overusing my right arm because of my left arm issues so we worked on both concerns with various neck exercises and the palm massage.

I am an older person so I expect some wear and tear but I'm nowhere near ready to become sedentary. I cannot praise Alison of Collie Regional Hospital Physio Dept enough for the practical easy steps advice she has given me and turned my life around.

I don't take medications of any kind and that's where I was heading for the pain levels before seeing Alison and not something I ever want to resort to for getting through my days. Thanks again Alison, I so much appreciate your friendly help, knowledge and advice to keep me independent and pain-free.
