About: Albany Health Campus / Cancer Services Albany Health Campus / Seniors Health and Community Rehabilitation GenesisCare

(as a carer),

After a cancer diagnosis, my spouse was provided with ample information and support so that they was empowered to make an informed consent to their choice of treatment.

While waiting for the cancer treatment to commence, my spouse fell and fractured their hip. They were promptly and compassionately retrieved by St John’s Ambulance and taken to Albany Hospital where they were thoroughly assessed, their pain was well managed and they were admitted and placed on the emergency surgery list. Within 24 hours, an emergency total hip replacement was performed, their recovery was uneventful and a rehabilitation program was commenced. Three days later my spouse was discharged and provided with good printed and verbal information plus all necessary ability aids.

In due course, the comprehensive cancer treatment assessment and planning was done prior to commencing radiotherapy at Genesis Care in Perth. Accommodation was provided at the Cancer Council Crawford Lodge along with any required support services plus free transport to and from the treatment centre.

On completion of the cancer treatment, my spouse was advised that they have Parkinson’s Disease and once again they were swiftly prescribed appropriate medication and admitted to a comprehensive rehabilitation program provided by the Seniors Health and Community Rehabilitation Service. This service is provided by various Allied Health staff who I feel are outstanding professionals who provide their patients with strategies to manage their symptoms thus ensuring quality of life and goals to achieve.

We are very satisfied with the health services provided for people in country Western Australia.
