"Poor staff care"

About: Homewood Care

(as a relative),

Recently I went to visit my grandparent at their elderly care home. My grandparent appeared traumatised and was more quiet than usual. Upon having asked them what was wrong they mentioned the person who shared a room with them had passed away, my grandparent was upset that the support workers were asking them what happened and that it took hours for any of the staff to answer their distress call button.

While listening to my grandparent speaking I began to hear a distress help button and a person yelling out please help me I need to use the toilet. Upon having heard, I walked out to see if I could help. The support worker said they would be right there. I believe 25 minutes went past and this person was still not attended to. I walked out again to find the support workers talking to each other in the staff room acting like, in my opinion, they never had spoken to me regarding this person.

After that, it took another 10 minutes before they came to check on the person who needed help. My grandparent was very scared and began crying saying that this happens all the time and that they are afraid that they will die and no one will take notice to even see them until it is beyond help.

We also noticed that on a recent special occasion we brought in a potted plant of low maintenance. It had been less than a week and it had disappeared. When questioned my grandparent said it had died, then I asked if that was what really happened and they admitted that it had been removed by a support worker. I was very offended as this was the main personal item chosen for therapeutic reasons.
