"Dr rudeness"

About: Joondalup Health Campus / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

I went to ED after the after hours GP, who wanted me to have a CT scan, sent me over as I told them an X-ray had already been done.

I had severe pain in my left side chest and back, feeling unwell and short of breath.

I waited 2hrs to then be seen by a dr in a smaller room for them to tell me the GP was wrong, that I dont need a CT, it can't be a clot or I'd be dead by now. I told the dr I had already been in for the same pain a few months ago and they said come back. The GP also sent me back..

In my opinion, this dr was very rude and ignorant. A nurse then offered me Tramadol for pain after I said I can't have it due to reactions. They said it should be fine for me. I refused it. I can't believe this nurse, in my opinion, tried to push it on me after I said of allergies.

I was sent back to the waiting area and called into a bed after 30 minutes of more waiting and then told them everything. They proceeded to repeat the exact same tests as a few months prior, no CT scan, and sent me home with pain meds after I said the pain is worse, it affects my breathing and pain meds don't help.

I'm now at home still suffering and afraid to see any other drs because I'm sick of being dismissed and told to rest, it will go away. It's not!

Dear mayjp94,

Thank you for contacting Patient Opinion and providing your valuable feedback regarding your experience. I wish to personally apologise to you that your interaction with the Emergency Department doctor was not respectful and that you were concerned about being offered Tramadol for pain relief despite explaining to staff that you reacted to it.

It is important that we take these opportunities to learn from consumers so that we can continue to improve the care and service we provide.

I would like to look into this matter further and would be grateful if you could make contact with our consumer liaison office on 08 9400 9672 so we can obtain some further information from you. I will then be able to provide you with a detailed response following my investigation.

I am sorry to read that you are still experiencing symptoms and I would strongly recommend that you contact your General Practitioner or other healthcare professional to discuss these concerns further.

Once again, thank you for taking the time to let us know about your experience and I look forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards

Dr Yusuf Mamoojee

Director of Emergency Medicine
