(as a parent/guardian),

When one’s child is a patient at Perth Children’s Hospital, I believe consideration should be given to providing an access card to access the ward they are in, as currently, you have to press the door button and be let in. I understand why the wards should not be easily accessible but I feel a card programmed for the child’s parent would be reasonable.

Dear giraffesr57,

Thank you for sharing your suggestion with us. In our first 12 months of opening at Perth Children’s Hospital, we have undertaken a review of access to the wards.

As part of this process we considered the provision of access cards to parents with a child admitted, as we do acknowledge that there can be a short wait to get back into the ward if a parent has to leave.

It was identified that such a scheme would come with risks if the access card was lost, and we want to ensure that we have a secure environment for all children admitted to hospital. We instead reconfigured the call bell linked to the ward access system so that it is answered as promptly as possible. We hope this can be understood by parents.
