I brought my child into emergency after they broke their arm recently. The department was very busy and we did have a reasonably long wait (which we expected - my child was not distressed and we had put on a sling before we went in so it was reasonable for us to wait).
The staff I saw were all very calm and respectful. The triage nurse (I’m sorry I missed her name) was very kind and despite being busy made sure my child was given some Panadol and explained she was about to end her shift but that she had handed over to the next nurse, so we were in good hands. The admissions clerk was friendly and professional.
Dr Simon did a quick but thorough assessment and listened to what I had to say. Despite the Dr thinking that my child didn’t have a break, he listened to me, as the parent, say that my child has a very high pain threshold (I’m sure he hears that all the time) and there was never a sense of me feeling like an over-anxious parent. Dr Simon then reviewed the X-ray very promptly and had my child in a cast and on our way as soon as he could (my child's arm was broken).
All I can say is what an amazing team. I believe that to have the whole department feel so calm and supportive on such a busy day is an incredible feat. Well done to all - keep up the good work.
