The care for my parent has been outstanding; from the parking people, to the tea ladies, to the cleaners, to the information desk. The Receptionist, Gail, in the Parks Building in Vascular Ward – in my opinion, is the nicest lady you will ever meet. I feel she went above and beyond – if I had a company, I would employ her. The Social Worker Penny was great – she gave me the Royal Commission’s email address so I can give them feedback about my parent's care. And the physio staff. I can’t say a bad word about anybody.
My parent had a diabetic ulcer that became gangrenous and is now facing the potential loss of a leg. We started out at Dickinson 3 South (the staff there were all lovely too) because the Vascular Ward was closed at the time.
We were moved to the Vascular Ward at Parkes 7 East. My parent was under Professor Ramon and required an angioplasty ballooning, to open up vein in the leg and then debridement surgery. The dressing is getting changed every second day so we are back regularly.
My parent has vascular dementia and they allowed me to get there at 7.00.am every morning to be there when the doctors did their rounds. Because doctors did rounds at the same time every morning (7:30am) it was fantastic as I didn’t have to sit there all day.
I feel it just makes your experience there better. Nobody ever looked at me to say "you can’t be here".
In my opinion, everybody is always so lovely. The nurses were lovely. When my parent ran out of insulin, they called me on a Sunday to bring in some more because they were on an old type of insulin.
