"Lack of patient care"

About: Austin Hospital

(as a relative),

My grandparent has been in hospital for three nights and in those three nights they've had a few X-rays / scans done. It appears that on the X-rays there is some sort of a lump on their heart, according to the doctor. This doctor viewed the X-rays and told us there is a non-cancerous tumour and at the same time said not to google it as Google tells a lot of lies and fake diagnoses of this illness.

Our family just recently lost another grandparent in the same hospital.

It now kills us to see our grandparent in there, waiting for days, to have a doctor come and explain; what can be done or can't be done, how bad it is or not bad it is. In my opinion, this is a disgrace. I know it is a very busy hospital but for God sake, three days of having doctors pass your room and not even acknowledge you're there.

I feel this hospital needs much better management or more doctors or maybe the doctors need a pay rise so they can lift their game, in my opinion. I don't know, I'm not a doctor. But I feel as a patient, or in this case, a patients' family member, the crap we see day to day in this hospital is terrible in my opinion. Imagine your partner or sibling is in hospital getting a result of a lump and the reply from the doctors is that they will get back to you. How would you feel?

I could mention my grandparents' name but I'm scared and I mean honestly scared, that after Austin Hospital reads this, they will care less and not attend to them.

I'm asking and I feel also on the behalf of all families and friends who have a loved one in this hospital, do something about it, it's not a game!

Dear lotiondn93,

I’m very sorry to hear about the experience you have described in relation to your grandparent's care.

Our team would very much like the opportunity to investigate this further for you so we can understand what has happened and hopefully provide you and your family with an explanation.

If you would like us to look into this matter further then please reach out to us via the Feedback page on our website or, if you’d prefer, contact our Consumer Engagement Office directly by phone on (03) 9496 3566 or email at feedback@austin.org.au

I can assure you all concerns are managed confidentially and this process is crucial to ensuring we can provide the best possible care to our patients.

Best wishes,
