At Sydney Eye Hospital recently around mid-afternoon my friend went out for some fresh air I believe, and sat down outside under a palm tree on a milk crate. They had just been operated on their eye and was not feeling well at all. Still very much in pain and I believe they were still very weak.
After a few minutes, a clerk from the Outpatients Ward came up to my friend and kicked the milk crate that they were sitting on! The clerk screamed at my friend to get on their bike and my friend was scared away. The clerk sat down on the crate and lit up a smoke while they threw their notebook next to them. I believe my friend was all confused about what had just happened and was flabbergasted. My friend didn't know what to say and went back inside.
They took 2 pictures of this clerk. My friend reported this story to the nurses inside and they were very nice and reported it internally. My friend got told they would get a call back from the superior of this clerk but I believe they never received any call about this horrible incident.
Since my friend is still too weak and not able to type this story because of their eye operation, I am writing this story for them. They would very much like to receive an official apology from this clerk or superior and have them acknowledge to my friend how wrong this was. In my opinion, this clerk should never work at a hospital where fragile patients should be treated with care! I really hope this story helps to make sure something will change!
My friend would also like to say that the nurses on 1 East of the Sydney Eye Hospital did a wonderful job and they were taken care of very well. A big thank you to them!
I am writing this on behalf of my friend, who was in Ward 8.
