I recently, after stopping my Type 2 Diabetes medications for circa 3 months, experienced a dramatic increase in my blood sugar readings, and whilst I was in the process of reintroducing the medication (which has resulted in reversing the blood sugar readings to acceptable levels) I awoke one morning and frighteningly was unable to read print: on smartphone, computers, newspapers and correspondence etc., which I had been able to read the night before.
Interestingly, my longer vision seems to have been improved remarkably but my depth perception, especially to objects close at hand, was absolutely problematic.
Accordingly, I attended Sydney Eye Hospital (SEH) -Emergency Department as I was very concerned that the recent blood sugar “explosion” may have damaged my eyes, as I had heard that this can happen to Type 2 Diabetics.
The attention and service I received on my recent visit - as indeed on the previous two occasions - was excellent. I found everyone that attended to me; the Triage Nurse at the reception area, the Nurse that gave me all the preliminary tests/ drops etc., and the specialist who thoroughly examined my eyes, were so professional, helpful, empathetic, and attentive, I could not have asked for, or expected more, in my opinion.
By the way, no permanent damage was found to have occurred in regards to my eyes. Just some short to mid-term adjustment, post the excessive blood sugar problem.
I think the SEH Emergency Department is a 'Centre of Excellence' in my opinion. Many thanks for your assistance and may I wish specifically everybody who assisted me, and generally all at the Hospital, the very best for the future.
Sincere thanks and kindest regards.
