"Keep up the good work"

About: Peel Health Campus

(as the patient),

I would like to thank all the staff at the Barker Ward (307). You are all fantastic people and do a fantastic job, not just medically but also on a personal perspective too. Easy to talk to and very caring and friendly. Keep up the good work.

On another issue, though I feel for the staff and patients, no fault of them or Peel Health Campus (PHC), but something needs to be done regarding equipment in the rooms. I feel PHC has been let down by the Local and State Government when it comes to these issues.

I think they should be equipped in every room, a permanent wall-mounted blood pressure and temperature reading stations so that the staff don’t have to be chasing this very important equipment up. I also noticed that they lose a lot of equipment in patient transfers to other hospitals that the equipment fails to be returned.

That been said, I truly hope that someone who can help in these situations, hopefully reading this or listening to hospitals and staff can bring this forward to the powers to be. I feel this would be a great benefit to staff and also patients and the medical industry.

Dear pictorsr36,

Thank you so much for taking the time to post your comments about Peel Health Campus on the Patient Opinion website. Thank you for your lovely comments about the fantastic team on Barker Ward. They take a lot of pride in delivering high quality, patient-focused care and service, and it is absolutely lovely to read your feedback. I have forwarded your words through to the manager of the ward and asked her to distribute them to the staff.

Thank you for raising the concern about equipment. As a result of your post, I have asked all of the ward managers to review what equipment they have, where it is, and what they need so that we can order anything that is needed. We will also have a "fresh eyes" look at how we "repatriate" equipment which goes with patients on transfer.

Feedback is really important to us. It is just delightful when we receive such lovely compliments, and it is equally important that you have let us know about opportunities for improvement. Thank you.

Best wishes,

Dr Margaret Sturdy

Dear pictorsr36

I am happy to provide you with an update on the actions we have taken in response to your post on Patient Opinion.

Following your post, I have sent your well wishes to the staff in Barker ward, and they were delighted that you had taken the time to get in touch with us.

We have reviewed our equipment in the hospital, and have procured some additional infusion pumps from one of our sister hospitals while we are waiting for the new fleet of next generation infusion pumps to be delivered.

We have also had a look at our blood pressure trolleys. As you said, there are some rooms with this equipment fixed to the wall, but we mostly use mobile trolleys. These trolleys also contain other equipment like digital thermometers and pulse oximeters. The wards are confident that they have enough of these, and that they are being stored in the correct places. I have again reiterated with the staff the importance of ensuring there is adequate equipment available for patient care, and to let us know if they wish to purchase more.

We have recently done a review of equipment which is transferred out with patients. We are aware of one infusion pump that is currently 'residing' at another hospital, and we have a plan to bring it home!

I again thank you for taking the time to contact us.

Kind regards

Dr Margaret Sturdy
